The Triesls
Anna Erika Triesl (nee Bernklau)
Erika Triesl was born on August 31, 1940 in Weiden in der Oberpfalz, Bavaria, Germany. She attended trade school to become a furrier but also became a talented seamstress. Erika had just finished school when she married Willy Triesl on her 17th birthday in 1957. On the ship to Canada in 1958, Erika became pregnant with thier daughter Carola. The family first lived in Cardiff, Ontario (near Bancroft) where Willy had found work at the Bicroft Uranium Mine. They moved to Red Lake in May 1959. Erika's reaction to the area was immediately positive and she always remembers the people of Red Lake being friendly and helpful, even after she moved away in 1973.

Willibald (Willy) Triesl
Willy Triesl was born on May 17, 1928 in Weiden in der Oberpfalz, Bavaria, Germany (the same hometown as his wife Erika). He served in the army during the Second World War, then later became a millwright and was highly proficient in blueprinting, metal work, steel fabrication, drafting and welding. Willy first sailed to Canada in October 1956 where he worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway in British Columbia. He returned to Germany to marry Erika in 1957. In 1959, Willy and his family moved to Red Lake where he found a job at the Campbell Red Lake Mines. The family remained in the area until 1973 when they moved to B.C.
